Shoulder labral (Bankart) tears are are frequent cause of pain in the shoulder. These labral tears are typically caused by significant trauma to the shoulder and can lead to instability of the shoulder. Non-operative treatment for tears and instability consists of physical therapy and injections, in certain situations. If a patient’s pain and/or instability is not resolved with non-operative treatment, these injuries can be corrected with minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery.

Arthroscopic shoulder labral repair, also referred to as Bankart repair, allows for complete repair of the tissue damage in the shoulder through a less invasive approach compared to traditional open surgical techniques. In addition to labral repair, stretched tissues can be "shifted" to decrease excessive motion as prevent instability.
